Indiana University of Pennsylvania, also known as simply IUP, is a public university in Indiana, which is the county seat of Indiana County, situated in the US state of Pennsylvania, a borough with a population estimated at a number of nearly 15 000 inhabitants, during the 2000 census.
IUP was established in 1875 and it currently is the largest university in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, as well as the commonwealth's 5th largest university. In addition to the main campus, IUP also has branch campuses in Punxsutawney, Northpointe, and Monroeville.
The athletic teams at Indiana University of Pennsylvania are known as the IUP Crimson Hawks, which compete in 19 varsity sports, 8 for men and 11 for women, in NCAA Division II's PSAC. Their distinctive colors are crimson and slate and their mascot is Norm.
